The Section Corner program
About the Section Corner Program:
My love for Land Surveying and programming applications is where the Section Corner Program came from. Indiana code (IC36-2-12-11) requires that our County Surveyors maintain a Section Corner Record Book and perpetuate the Section Corners within their County.
This presented a couple of problems. The first is the time it takes another Surveyor to retrieve these records. It typically involves looking thru a card system, taking apart large books to make copies, and looking in several places to insure you haven't missed anything.
The second problem (and perhaps more important) is the fact that these valuable records in hard copy form are subject to damage/destruction from fire, flooding, theft, etc.
By having the records in an electronic format, they can be backed up, and stored on various servers onsite and offsite. This provides for the perpetuation and preservation of these records.
So the Section Corner Program was born in 2003. That 2003 program is just barely related to the Program today. Subsequent County Surveyors have made suggestions and/or wanted features to be added which resulted in the Program we have today. My sincere wish is that my Program will completely automate your County Surveyor's Office, as it has done in my home County (Orange County, Indiana). A Surveyor can walk into the Orange County Surveyor's office and walk out within minutes with every Section Corner/Surveys/Plats/Original Notes for the Section they are researching within minutes. All retrieved in seconds from the Section Corner Program database.
My thanks and appreciation go out to Matthew Cooper PS, Orange County Surveyor.
His suggestions have made the Program what it is today, all while pushing my home made programming ability to the limit. Fortunately, I program alone, so when I was stumped by how to implement a programming request by Matt, any derogatory comments toward him went unheard.
